Reindeer Herd in Northern Russia

Today I'm just sharing a photograph. This is a picture I took in 2010 at the mouth of the Kolyma River, where it meets the Arctic Ocean, in northern Russia. Those black dots are reindeer (a few of them are white, too) coming down to the river to drink. Off to the right is an indigenous herdsman. The Soviets tried to wipe out the traditional life ways of these people but they still persist. Today, global warming is a bigger threat than the Soviets managed to be. The Arctic is warming much faster than the rest of the planet.
