For the past four years, I've been organizing to stop a huge water extraction project in eastern Nevada. The Southern Nevada Water Authority, which is the water utility for Las Vegas, wants to pump 200,000 acre feet of water from this area. It's a place that's worth fighting for (although, which place isn't) with jagged limestone mountain peaks and broad valleys filled brim-to-brim with sage. It's one of the more remote parts of the lower 48 states. And Las Vegas wants to destroy it.
There is much more to this story. This video covers more details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2NyvF40SS8
Over memorial day weekend in late May, a few of us are organizing an event called the "Sacred Water Sacred Forests Camp", which will take place in the area. Finally, this photograph is taken just up the hill from where I am living in the southern Willamette Valley. It's a beautiful spring. As always, I'm selling prints of this photo to help finance my activism. Thank you.
